Penerbit Filem 'Friday the 13th' Terbaru Jelaskan Pembatalan Filem

Penerbit di sebalik filem Friday the 13th telah menjelaskan kenapa sekuel untuk versi reboot Friday the 13th mengalami penangguhan. Friday the 13th bermula sebagai sebuah filem bajet murah yang mana mendapat pulangan yang lumayan. Filem ini memperkenalkan watak Jason Voorhees dalam sekuel keduanya sebelum ianya menjadi ikon slasher yang dikenali sehingga kini.

Filem tentang Jason Voorhees diteruskan dengan pelbagai evolusi watak dan kisah dan mempunyai crossover bersama watak Freddy Krueger dari Nightmare on Elm Street selepas watak ini dibeli oleh New Line Cinema selepas beberapa lama diterbitkan oleh Paramount. Filem terakhir Jason ialah versi reboot pada tahun 2009 yang mana berakhir dengan klu tentang adanya sekuel baru. Namun, sehingga kini, sekuel itu tidak pernah berhasil untuk difilemkan.

Breck Eisner, pengarah filem Friday the 13th yang baru hampir memulakan penggambaran filem Friday the 13th terbaru sebelum projek itu dibatalkan oleh studio kerana kegagalan filem reboot Rings. Filem yang bakal menjadi filem ke 13 dalam francais itu bakal diterbitkan oleh Brad Fuller dan Andrew Form.

Fuller: One of the biggest heartbreaks of the last couple years was that we were about to make that movie and it fell apart. That still hurts. The fans reach out to us; Andrew doesn’t really engage because he’s not on Twitter, but I am and I hear from the fans and that’s all they ask about. We get asked about that more than anything else.  

Form: That one still hurts every day. We were a couple of weeks from filming on that one, Guzikowski wrote an unbelievable script, we found the camp… That one still hurts.

Semenjak pembatalan sekuel tersebut, filem ini juga mendapat gangguan daripada undang-undang apabila Victor Miller cuba untuk menfailkan saman untuk mendapatkan semula watak Jason yang mana direkanya pada filem pertama. Victor Miller cuba untuk mendapatkan kesemua haknya dan ianya sekaligus menyebabkan filem Friday the 13th tidak mungkin dapat direalisasikan sehinggalah kes selesai.

Fans think it’s so simple, that if we want to make the movie we can go make it, and that’s just not the case. There are rights issues; originally, Warner Bros. owned the rights, then Paramount had them for a couple of years, and now I think the rights are reverting back to Warner Bros. At the same time, there’s this on-going lawsuit with Victor Miller. If there’s a lawsuit hanging over the rights, it’s problematic, you can’t really make the movie until that gets settled.

Rupanya, sekarang barulah diketahui bahawa amat sukar untuk merealisasikan filem Friday the 13th yang terbaru. Semenjak 2009, pelbagai versi skrip ditulis dan semuanya ditolak pihak studio. Pembatalan filem ke 13 ini menjadi agak menyedihkan kerana ketakutan pihak studio untuk melabur dalam genre horror. Namun, semestinya, jika Friday the 13th terbaru difilemkan, ianya pasti menjadi superhit
